The National Association of Government General Medical and Dental Practitioners (NAGGMDP), Kogi chapter, has again enjoined the State Government to urgently review the current salary structure of doctors working in the State civil service to stem the tide of brain drain.

The association made the call in a press statement on Monday in Lokoja, jointly signed by its State Chairman, Dr. Ugoh Stanley Nkemakolam and Secretary, Dr. Okundaye Benson.

It would be recalled that NAGGMDP Kogi State Chapter had in a press conference on June 23, appealed to the State Government for an upward review of CONMESS, hazard allowance, cash backing of promotions, employment of more doctors and the re-introduction of Rural allowance for their members in the rural areas in order to cushion the harsh effects of the  economy on them.

The association said today’s press statement was to again call the attention of His Excellency, Gov. Yahaya Bello, to the hardships that her members are currently facing.

They maintained that the current salary structure of doctors working in the state civil service was no longer fashionable in line with the current economic realities especially with the removal of fuel subsidy.

The association urged the state government to take urgent steps to sustain the age-long industrial harmony between the State government and her members who are the backbone of clinical services across the State.

“We know that His Excellency has been trying his best but we are still appealing to him to kindly address these five point request of our members as a way of encouraging the few of us who have kept faith with him in the thick and thin of the ongoing medical brain drain” the association said.
