Nasarawa State Internal Revenue Service (NSIRS), in conjunction with MasReal Cleaning and Logistics, has commenced a statewide town hall meeting, stakeholder engagement, and taxpayer sensitization exercise aimed at deepening public understanding of tax obligations and promoting voluntary tax compliance across the state.

The exercise, organized by MasReal Cleaning and Logistics, commenced in Karu Local Government Area and is designed to improve voluntary compliance while widening taxpayers’ understanding of the provisions of the new tax law in Nasarawa State.

In his opening remarks, Executive Director of Masreal, Amb. Ahmed Suleiman Dakwoji, emphasized that voluntary tax compliance remains the most sustainable path to funding local development and state projects.

He noted that the current tax reforms are designed to simplify processes, reduce multiple taxation, and promote fairness.

Amb. Ahmed explained that the harmonized tax system assured reduction of multiple levies through unified collection platforms. He said the introduction of e-filing and mobile payment channels will ease compliance.

He detailed the benefits of the current tax reforms through presumptive tax regime, expansion of taxpayer identification registration to capture more businesses in the tax net and incentives for compliance.

The meeting featured detailed presentations on critical aspects of the tax law, focusing on the importance of tax payment, how taxation works in the state, and the role of taxpayers in supporting government development initiatives through revenue generation.

The engagement also provided an interactive platform for questions and answers, enabling participants to seek clarification on tax-related matters and better understand their obligations under the law.

Taxpayers, represented by leaders of various groups, associations, and business communities including banking institutions, commended the management of NSIRS for organizing what they described as a timely and impactful engagement, noting that such interactive sessions would strengthen trust, transparency, and cooperation between the tax authority and taxpayers.

The stakeholders further expressed readiness to support government efforts by complying with tax obligations and encouraging others within their various sectors to embrace the culture of prompt tax payment.

The statewide sensitization exercise is expected to continue across other local government areas as part of NSIRS’ sustained commitment to taxpayer education, public enlightenment, and improved internally generated revenue in Nasarawa State.

Masreal suggested the need to cascade tax education to ward and community levels and nomination of liaison officers in each union/association for tax information.
