Barely eighteen months to 2019 Kogi Governorship election, youth stakeholders from the seven local governments in the western axis of the state has called on Alhaji Abubakar Idris to join the race for the coveted seat.
The youth leaders made the call after a Kogi West youth stakeholders meeting in Lokoja on Sunday.
Speaking on behalf of the youth leaders, Hon. Oluwafemi James Ajileye said they have resolved to draft Idris into the governorship race and work assiduously for his success at the polls.
The youth leaders, who are members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) said Abubakar Idris, a successful businessman, is young, brilliant and compassionate.
According to Oluwafemi, the various PDP youth leaders and members have seen the needed quality for good governance in Abubakar Idris. He stated that there is urgent need to support and elect a young, enterprising and humble man as the next governor of the state.

He said that the state has suffered untold hardship, bad administration and total failure under the current administration.

“After weeks of brainstorming and search for a credible alternative, I can authoritatively confirm to you gentlemen of the press that the youths have found Alh. Abubakar Idris credible enough to be the next governor of Kogi State. We have found him to be honest, humble, hardworking, enterprising and successful in his private business. We are therefore convinced that he will take Kogi to her place of pride. This meeting is facilitated to announce our decision to the world as we will make efforts to visit him and convince him to contest,” he said.
Another youth leader, Abdulmalik Ismaila posited that the current government is a monumental failure and a disappointment to the people and there is need to bring in a credible replacement. He said the youth leaders  took it upon themselves to search for a credible alternative and have found Alh. Abubakar Idris fit for the top job.
Abubakar Idris is the son of the former Governor of Kogi State, Alh Ibrahim Idris.
