The member representing Yagba Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Leke Abejide, has said constituents from Lokoja/Koto and Kabba/Bunu-Ijumu have been urging him to contest for the Kogi West Senatorial seat, but he has chosen to remain focused on his current constituency.
Abejide made this known while speaking at the palace of the Elegbe of Egbe, HRM Oba Ayodele Irukera, during the disbursement of ₦10 million each for a community empowerment initiative for Odo and Oke Egbe Mekun community.
He noted that calls for him to vie for the Senate have grown in recent months.

“Lokoja/Koto want me to run for the Senate,” he said. “But I restricted myself to Yagba Federal Constituency.”
The lawmaker explained that his decision was driven by his commitment to completing ongoing development projects and programmes in Yagba, adding that he wants to consolidate the gains made in education, empowerment, and infrastructure in the area.
He said his priority remains delivering on the mandate given to him by the people of Yagba and ensuring that every community in the constituency benefits from people-oriented representation.
Abejide has been active in rolling out grassroots projects and empowerment schemes across the 71 communities in Yagba Federal Constituency as part of his four-year development plan.
He commended the traditional council led by Oba Ayodele Irukera and the entire Egbe community for standing with him since he started his political career.
He urged the community to deliver overwhelming support for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu.
He also stated that his target is ₦50 million for developmental projects for each community over the next four years, stressing that the funds will come in tranches if judiciously used.
He added that the Oja Egbe Road will be attended to as promised.
Speaking on behalf of the Egbe Mekun Development Association, General Secretary Elder Theophilus Dada thanked the lawmaker for supporting the people of Yagba land.
He promised to make judicious use of the money, pointing out that it will be used for the rehabilitation of their waterworks, which has been abandoned until now.
Highlight of the event was the presentation of twenty million naira Zenith Bank cheque to Odo and Oke Egbe while Oba Irukera presented Elder Leke and his beloved wife, Mrs Esther Abejide gift.
