Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State has been berated for his glaring disregard to political leaders from Lokoja and Kogi local government areas of the state.
The Kogi State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in a press statement signed by Kabiru Mohammed, accused Bello of sidelining APC leaders of Lokoja-Kogi extraction by empowering non-indigenes of the area to carry out special roles before and during the August 11 House of Representatives bye election.
According to PDP the lack of confidence in the APC stakeholders of Lokoja and Kogi LGAs, as displayed by Governor Bello, calls for worry.
The party alleged that Bello has empowered and assigned his Chief of Staff, Chief Edward Onoja to oversee Lokoja Ward A; Alh. Jibril Isah Echocho, Lokoja Ward B; Asiru Idris, Ward C; Smart Adeyemi, Ward D; Alh. Yahaya Karaku, Gegu Wards in Kogi LGA and the APC state Chairman, Abdullahi Bello, Oworo Ward. It opines that the action is an indication that he has no confidence in the ability Lokoja and Kogi LGA people.
PDP said it considers Governor Bello’s action as insulting.
“The governor’s loss of confidence in the APC stakeholders in Lokoja and part of Kogi LGAs mean that their members can not be trusted with money, thus the resort to bringing in strangers to handle money in their election,” the statement reads.
The PDP argued that while Governor Bello has by that singular action further denigrated the APC members, it is also an indication that he lacks an understanding of electoral laws.
According to the PDP, it would amount to an electoral offence for those assigned by Gov. Bello to buy votes in an area they are not residents on election day.
The PDP called on INEC and security agencies to rise to the occasion and check what it described as a hidden plan to scuttle the forthcoming bye election by Gov. Bello’s men.
The PDP mocked APC over its allege plot to induce voters on election day, pointing out that the people of Lokoja and Kogi LGAs will not their conscience in the face of unprecedented poverty, hardship and deaths inflicted on the citizens by the present government.
The party called on government to pay workers their outstanding salaries and pensions with the planned N4billion earmarked for the bye election, pointing out that no amount of deception and votes buying at this point will save the APC from a woeful loss in the forthcoming bye election.
