The ensuing drama following the alleged suspension of Hon. (Alh) Abdullahi Maikudi Bature as the APC Ward D Chairman by 15 members of the 25 member Executive took a new turn yesterday, Wednesday, 4th of May 2016 when another letter was written and copied to the trio of Hon. Arc. Umar Buba Jibrin, Member, Lokoja/Kogi KKF Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Umar Ahmed Imam, Speaker, Kogi State House of Assembly and Hon. Haruna Isa, Chairman, APC Lokoja LGA, denouncing the earlier action by some of the Executives.
The Leader of the Delegation, Mall. Lawal El-Amin Jiya, Secretary of Ward D APC, intimated the Speaker that 16 of them out of the 25 member executives decided to come physically to submit the copy of the letter they signed and went ahead to also pass a vote of confidence on the leadership of the Ward Chairman, Hon. (Alh) Abdullahi Maikudi Bature.
They further stated that 6 out of the 15 members that purportedly signed the earlier suspension letter were physically with them on the visit and that they were not informed of what their signatures was collected for and so were not part of the 15 members who allegedly wanted the Chairman suspended. They added that their signatures were only collected from a different meeting they held at one of the Party’s leader’s house and were not informed that it was going to be used against the Ward Chairman.
The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Imam while acknowledging the receipt of their letter also informed them of an earlier letter he received in connection with the same matter. He enjoined the delegation to mend fences and forge a common front in the best interest of the Party.
While acknowledging the fact that 16 members out of the 25 member executives physically present, who have also agreed to have signed the letter of a vote of confidence on the leadership of Hon. (Alh) Abdullahi Maikudi Bature as Ward D Chairman, confirms that Hon. (Alh.) Abdullahi Maikudi Bature remains the Ward D Chairman, re-emphasized that every member of the 25 Ward Executives must be on board for the Party to move forward. He assured them that a meeting to clear the misunderstanding will be held soonest to avoid any division in the Party.
The Chairman, Hon. (Alh) Abdullahi Maikudi Bature, while talking to the Press affirms his position, in his words as “the authentic and generally acceptable Chairman of APC Ward D”. Given the support he enjoys from the majority of the executives, the Press could not agree less.
