The Speaker of Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Aliyu Umar Yusuf has clarified that the proposed Dr Umaru Sandah Ahmadu College of Health Sciences to be cited in Lokoja is already a reality and that advance work has gone in to ensure it begins full academic operations.

A press statement signed and made available to the media by the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Yabagi Mohammed, said Rt Hon Umar stated this this against the backdrop of some concerns expressed by residents of Lokoja about the possibility of the school to be the light of day and enquiries made by some journalists on the matter shortly after the bill for the school’s establishment passed second reading at the State House of Assembly on Thursday.

Rt Hon Umar noted that the College is fully owned and facilitated by indigenes of Lokoja who have pulled their resources together to establish the institution and that his bill only seeks to give the college necessary legal instruments to exist and provide academic and professional services to the people.

The Speaker therefore said the construction of the edifice for the institution has reached advanced stage and that the media would be properly briefed on the development in no distant time.

He said the college would provide the State, particularly the immediate community – Lokoja, with necessary human resources in the health sector to improve the healthcare needs of the people.

In their contributions to the bill, members of the Assembly applauded the vision for the school’s establishment, and prayed for those who those who have invested their resources in the school, noting that it would go a long way to improving the lives of the people.
