The Lokoja Local Government Chief Administrator Hon Shiru Lawal, has embarked on the construction of Unguwa Pawa bridge in Ward D.
Shiru disclosed this in a telephone interview with this reporter on Thursday.
He said that he embarked on the construction of the bridge to make the area more accessible and alleviate the suffering of the people of the area and environs.
“I am embarking on the construction of the bridge on personal ground so that people from ward D and environs will no longer traverse before getting to ward E, especially as the bridge links other Wards with the Muslim cemetery,” he said.
On whether the work is been undertaken by Lokoja Local Government, Shiru explained that it is his personal efforts
“It is my personal contributions as the council, due to financial downturn, cannot afford to issue out contract”, he said.
He appealed to the communities through which the bridge passed to make good use of the bridge by protecting and evacuating dirt, as the project is meant to serve all and sundry.
The administrator explained further that the council had no capacity to fund new projects for now, but assured the people of Lokoja Local Government Area that the Local government, will execute projects that would have direct bearings to the lives of our people,anytime the financial position of the Local government improve.
