The Area Superintendent of the Apostolic Church in Lokoja, Pastor Alfred Funsho Amode, has warned youths to abstain from sex as the only way to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDs.
The cleric gave the warning yesterday in an activity to mark the world HIV/AIDs Day in Obajana, Kogi State organized by the Teens Educational Development and Information Network (TEDIN).
He said AIDS is real and the society has not been able to find the cure despite technological feats, adding that the society needs holiness, faithfulness and sincerity to be able to successfully fight the scourge. Also speaking, Pastor Emmanuel Ige Babalola of the Assemblies of God Church urged youths to avoid fornication and other habits that could make victims of HIV/AIDS. He urged government to make treatment readily available for those with the virus.
The president of TEDIN, Titus Adekunle Alone, said Obajana community was chosen for the event because of the presence of many long distance drivers and artisans who may have commercial sex workers there, being the host community of the largest cement factory in sub-Saharan Africa.
