Twenty one local government council chairmen and 239 councillors in Kogi state have vacated their offices as they served out their three-year tenure on Thursday.
The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Salami Ozigi Deedat, confirmed this in a statement.
According to Deedat, the chairmen and councillors were sworn in on December 15, 2020, and have now successfully completed their terms in office.
Deedat congratulated the former local government officials for the successful end of their tenure in office and wished them well in their future endeavours.
“It is noteworthy that you all have played great partnership roles in our applaudable security state, infrastructural developments, citizens’ welfarism and lots more that we have recorded with the available resources from the national down to the local government areas,” he said.
Deedat was, however, silent on when the next local government election will be conducted in the state.
There are speculations that Governor Bello will constitute caretaker committees for the councils. Lobbying are currently going on for membership of the committees.
