Chairman of Social Democratic Party (SDP), Alhaji Mouktar Atima has charged the party’s candidates in the December 12 local government elections in Kogi state to work together as a family.

Atima gave the charge during the presentation of certificates of return to chairmanship and councillorship candidates in Lokoja on Saturday.

He noted that the party has been made proud as all its candidates scaled through Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (KOSIEC) without hassles.

Atima said the party party is fielding chairmanship and vice chairmanship candidates for all twenty one local government councils in the state. He added that the party is also fielding credible councillorship candidates in all 239 political wards across the state.

He hailed the resilience and commitment of SDP candidates, urging them to work together as a family to win the December 12 council polls.

“Working together as a family is so critical to the party as we have all it takes to create upsets and come out victorious in the election. I called on our members and party supporters not to be deterred by antics the opposition may adopt to weaken their rising popularity.

“The superlative structures and overwhelming acceptance of our party has created fears in the camps of other political parties,” he said.

Atima called on the electoral commission to create  a level playing ground for all the parties, saying all eyes are on the electoral umpire to deliver free, fair and credible elections.

In their separate comments, the state secretary of the party, Dr. Arome Okeme and financial secretary, Hon. Reuben Odaudu congratulated the successful candidates and urged them to work harder to win all contested positions on election day.

They advise the candidates to work as a team and called on the lovers of democracy, within and outside the party, to extend their goodwill to the party to make her candidates succeed in the coming elections.

The chairmanship candidate for Ajaokuta local government council, Hon Siaka Abdulrahman expressed optimism that, given his pedigree as a grassroot politician, he will win the election.
