The Kogi State House of Assembly Speaker, Hon. Momoh Jimoh Lawal, has advised all contestants in the local government election to go to the poll with a spirit of sportsmanship.

Lawal urged the candidates to be magnanimous in victory and to accept fate in defeat.

The Speaker gave the advice yesterday during a chat with journalists in Lokoja, the state capital.

He said: “This is crucial moment because the people will elect their leaders at the local government level this weekend.”

Lawal called on the state independent electoral commission to ensure that election materials get to pooling units on time under tight security.

“Accreditation and voting should also be done at stipulated time,” the Speaker added.

Lawal, however, described the level of security in the stat as appreciable.

He stressed that the prevailing atmosphere of peace enjoyed by residents was as a result of Governor Idris Wada’s zero tolerance for criminality.

The Speaker said the House of Assembly had passed a quite number of laws and resolutions that could guarantee good road network in Lokoja.

On the Kogi/Anambra crisis over oil well, Lawal noted that the House also passed resolution urging the Federal Government and National Boundary Adjustment to intervene in the dispute for amicable resolution between the two states.
