With four days to the council poll in Kogi State, former Commissioner for Information, Dr Tom Ohikere, has defected to the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN).

Dr Ohikere, who was a two time commissioner informed that his defection was due to the imposition of candidates by the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the last primaries held to pick candidates for the election.

Ohikere, who was reported to have been a strong PDP member, described the present administration in the state  as “ceaselessly visionless, robustly anti-people and ineffective and inefficient.”

Ohikere,  who  disclosed this in the residence of the Prince Abubakar Audu, former governor and the leader of the ACN  in the state, where he was issued a new membership card,  explained that he decided to pitch  his tent with ACN  to effect a better change in the state, noting that 13 months after the inception of Wada administration, there was practically nothing on ground to show how he had spent allegedly  spent over N20 billion, collected from the federation account.

He informed that by coming into the camp of the progressives, he intends to launch a non- violent social  crusade that would bring the desired succour and purposeful leadership to the state.

According to him, “A non-growing leader, a non-growing party or a non growing group of people  cannot lead successfully. Governor Idris Wada must live a life of effective leadership; he must stop sleeping on duty.

“It is a pity that while other state in the federation are flying, Kogi State is learning to crawl. This is not the type of administration ‘kogites’ desire.”

He lamented that the state lacked  political leaders who had the genuine passion to serve the masses selflessly, but singled out Senator Smart Adeyemi, who represents Kogi West senatorial district at the National Assembly, as a politician who had touched lives among others.

In his welcome speech, Prince Abubakar Audu described Ohikere as a big fish and urged him to bring his wealth of experience as a versatile politician to move the ACN forward in the state.
