Stakeholders of All Progressives Congress in the western axis of Kogi State have decried the plans by Governor Yahaya Bello to constitute caretaker committees in local governments, urging him to thread the path of constitutionality.

This position was contained in a communique issued at the end of their meeting in the residence of the deputy majority leader in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Umar Buba Jibril, held in Lokoja.

It said rather than replacing the chairmen whose tenure is about to expire with caretaker committees, the governor should allow directors of local government to take charge pending the conduct of council poll.

The APC leaders also wholeheartedly supported the passing of vote of no confidence on the state governor by the state executives of the party, urging the national leadership to take appropriate steps in line with the resolution.

The communique which was signed by Chief David Dare Olatunde further expressed concern over the alleged meddlesomeness of the governor in the crisis rocking the state assembly, and condemned in strong terms the action of the “infamous G5” lawmakers, reiterating their commitment in the peaceful resolution of the impasse based on the rule of law and democratic ethos.

It equally noted with concern, the “penchant of the Attorney General of the Federation to offer gratuitous and jaundiced advice” on crisis relating to state affairs as seen in his recent letter to the Inspector General of Police, on the closure of the state assembly in line with the directive of the National Assembly.

The meeting expressed worry that such advice was capable of causing disharmony between the legislative and the executive arm of government, and appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to call the minister to order.
