He noted that the tenure of the unelected local government administrators which has been extended twice by Kogi State House of Assembly will expire next month with no signs that elections will hold.
“Local government autonomy and administration in Kogi state is becoming worrisome in under the current government.
“It will be recalled the tenure of the democratically elected local government council ended on the 6 may 2016. The current administrators in all the 21 LGA were put in place with been elected contrary to section 7(1) of the 1999 constitution as amended. The state Assembly have also extended the tenure of this unelected administrators twice, the last which was on the 10 November 2017. One month to the end of the extension, and less than one month that will make it two years of unelected local government administrators in the state, when will this government in kogi state conduct elections to local government council?,” he asked.
The state government may seek for further extension of the unelected administrators tenure as it is yet to announce date for elections into the local government councils.
