Your Excellency,
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR
President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces,
Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Your Excellency,

PROTEST AGAINST THE INCLUSION OF ALHAJI YAHAYA BELLO IN THE APC COMMITTEE ON STRATEGY, CONFLICT RESOLUTION AND MOBILISATION

We, the concerned members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi State, write with a deep sense of loyalty to our great party and profound respect for your leadership to commend you for the timely inauguration of the Committee on Strategy, Conflict Resolution and Mobilisation. We recognise this initiative as a proactive and statesmanlike step towards strengthening internal cohesion and positioning the APC effectively ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Your consistent call for unity, inclusiveness, and tolerance within the party resonates strongly with us, and we share your conviction that internal harmony remains critical to the sustainability of our democracy and the success of the APC.

However, while applauding the intent and vision behind the committee, we are compelled by conscience and commitment to the party to express our serious concern over the inclusion of the former Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, as a member of this important committee.

Your Excellency, Kogi State remains one of the flashpoints of internal crisis within the APC. Regrettably, Alhaji Yahaya Bello is widely regarded by party members and stakeholders in the state as a principal architect of the prolonged divisions, grievances, and internal disputes that continue to weaken the party structure in Kogi. He is, in effect, a central party to the very crisis the committee has been constituted to resolve.

It is a well-established principle of fairness and justice that one cannot be a judge in his own case. Including an individual who is deeply enmeshed in an unresolved internal conflict as an arbiter of reconciliation undermines both the moral authority and the perceived neutrality of the committee.

Beyond this, Your Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Bello is presently facing serious corruption allegations arising from his stewardship of Kogi State over an eight-year period, matters which are still before the courts. While we respect the presumption of innocence guaranteed by law, the sensitive nature of this assignment demands members whose public image, credibility, and moral standing are beyond reproach, if the committee’s work is to command trust, respect, and broad acceptance within the party.

It is our firm belief that for the Presidential Committee on Strategy, Conflict Resolution and Mobilisation to be taken seriously and to achieve its noble objectives, it must be composed of individuals with demonstrable records of inclusive leadership, integrity, and moral authority, especially in states where internal party disputes are most pronounced.

Your Excellency, our intervention is not borne out of malice or personal animosity, but out of genuine concern for the unity, credibility, and future electoral strength of the APC. We respectfully urge you to review the composition of the committee as it relates to Alhaji Yahaya Bello, in the overriding interest of justice, fairness, and the long-term stability of our great party.

We remain loyal members of the APC and steadfast supporters of your Renewed Hope Agenda. Please accept, Your Excellency, the assurances of our highest esteem and continued commitment to the progress and unity of the All Progressives Congress.

Yours faithfully,

Concerned Members of the All Progressives Congress (APC)
Kogi State.
