Lawi AT Ahmed Bags Award For Good Governance, Education Development

The Chairman House Committee on water resources at the Kogi State House of Assembly, Honourable Lawi AT Ahmed was honoured on Saturday for his selfless services towards education advancement in Ebiraland.
Lawi, who represents Okene l state constituency was honoured with an award by LGEA Standard School, Onyikoko.
The award which was presented to him by the former Nigerian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Ambassador Usman Bello on behalf of the school in recognition of his selfless and humanitarian services towards development of education in Ebiraland.
Receiving the award, Lawi tasked governments at all levels, as well as the citizens, to pay more attention to the development of rural communities. He stressed that community service must be embraced to tackle the challenges of identifying the gaps in the area of mentoring, capacity building, provision of support services to the vulnerable and marginalized groups, youth development and infrastructure development.
“I advocate bottom-up approach to development, which is community-driven. We must revert to the old-African cultural mode of developing our community to achieve more results. We must imbibe the culture of community spirit, community service and community development.
“As for me who represents the people of Okene I constituency, that is what I have been doing, as I have sponsored bills that are all in relation to community development for two years in the parliament, and I have used my earnings for the development of my communities.
“I call on governments at all level and citizens to pay more attention to the development of rural communities so that the people there can also have the sense of belonging and play their roles effectively.
“Nigeria will outlive recession, no doubt, but we must work very hard, sacrifice, be open and be patriotic to the country, for us to get out of recession.  All Nigerians regardless of social strata can add value and must add value towards the development of their communities, state and the country”, he said.
Describing the award as inspiring, the lawmaker said it will re-energize him to continue in the community service of his people, Okene l state constituency, Kogi State and Nigeria.
He commended the management of LGEA Standard School for acknowledging good works, promoting diligence, merits, and rewarding it accordingly. He said Nigerians should be bold to celebrate their own, as this is one of the tools to reset value and fight corruption.
Hon. Lawi, in his final speech, promised to equip the school with modern computers to upgrade the learning skills of the pupils and the staff, he also awarded start-up scholarships to the three best performed pupils of primary (6) six across his constituency and he have also promised to build a multi-purpose town hall in the school premises which he is going to name after his late dad most distinguished Senator AT Ahmed.
The Headmaster LGEA Standard, Abdullahi Abdulmaleek, while speaking during the event, said Hon. Lawi was selected based on merit. He said Hon. Lawi have made impact in his various callings and deserved to be honoured.
