The Speaker, Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Umar Ahmed Imam on Thursday, 13th July, 2017 bagged an award of honour by the Law Students’ Society (LSS) of University of Ilorin.
This is in recognition of his peace building, effective, efficient and purposeful leadership that has restored stability to the House of Assembly which hitherto has been bedeviled with a lot of crisis and the sanity has been sustained till date
This award was bestowed on the Speaker during the presentation and launching of “The Jurist”; an annual Journal of the Law Students’ Society of University of Ilorin in honour of legal luminaries. The 2017 edition highlighted a quintessential legal luminary, rule of law icon and human rights activist, Mr. Femi Falana, SAN.
The event witnessed the congregation of the best of the legal profession in the country in appreciation of Honourees. The Guest Speaker on the occasion, Ahmed Adeniyi Raji, SAN, FCIArb (UK) extensively examined the topic: ‘The Justiciability of Chapter II of 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (As Amended)’.
The award was received on behalf of Mr. Speaker by Dr. Abdulsalam Bawa Dangana, the Special Adviser to Rt. Hon. Umar Ahmed Imam who conveyed Mr. Speaker’s appreciation for the honour done him and regrets his inability to grace the occasion personally due to his participation in the ongoing Constitution Review Retreat/Meeting in Lagos.
The organizers took special note of the peace and absence of crisis in Kogi State House of Assembly since Rt. Hon. Umar Ahmed Imam took over the mantle of leadership of the House especially against the backdrop of the turmoil in Kogi State.
In response to remarks about the political situation in Kogi State, Dr. Abdulsalam Bawa Dangana reiterated that Rt. Hon. Umar Ahmed Imam is for true and genuine reconciliation that will earn the State more friends than foes and not interested in any recall.
The event which was attended by numerous legal luminaries from across the Country, and witnessed by the Management Team of University of Ilorin was rounded up with a Dinner at the Banquet Hall of the Kwara State Conference Center, opposite Government House, Ilorin.
