Labour Party (LP) has protested its exclusion from the February 20 Senatorial rerun election in Kogi East zone.

National chairman of the party, Alhaji Abdulkadir Abdulsalam, said yesterday in Abuja that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) should not take actions that may lead to the nullification of the election after its conduct.

He said the December 2 appeal court ruling that nullified the election of Senator Abdulrahman Abubakar did not affect LP, as their  case was not substitution but outright replacement.
“Hon. Ibrahim Gabriel Itodo, who was our candidate for the 28 March, 2015 election defected to the UPN after the election. The court ruling was an opportunity for us to present another candidate and we did  that with the name of  Prince Yunusa Abdulwahab, but INEC was denying us this opportunity, even when Itodo wrote to our party and INEC on his defection to another party on December 10,” Abdulsalam said.
