The executive chairman of Yagba West local government council, Hon. Pius Kolawole, on Tuesday, flagged-off the ‘Food For Widows’ initiative.
In a statement issued by the council chairman’s media assistant, Toba Abraham, the initiative was launched at Omi/Ogga/Odo-Ara ward of Yagba West LGA.
The initiative, according to the council boss, is an off-shoot of his welfare programs designed as a palliative measure to mitigate the suffering of the people, who are mostly widows in the local government.
Kolawole commended Governor Yahaya Bello for his laudable programs aimed at uplifting the status of widows and women in general.
He described Bello as the only Governor in Nigeria who has demonstrated strong will to move women to the next level in the scheme of things.
The council chairman urged beneficiaries to continue praying for and supporting the ‘New Direction’ government.
The Executive chairman said the token was his widows’ mite and his own way of giving back to the people.
The event which was kick-started in Omi town had in attendance members of the executive council of Yagba West, special advisers and other dignitaries.
