Kogi Progressive Initiative, an NGO, has called for power shift from Kogi East Senatorial District to either Kogi West or Central.

This is contained in a statement in Abuja on Wednesday by Mallam Onotu Otaru, the Coordinator of the Kogi Progressives Initiative, under the umbrella of All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to the statement, the NGO has resolved to take signatures of over 200, 000 voters in Kogi West and Central Senatorial districts to demand for power shift in the state.
It stated that the decision was important, especially to APC as the state was approaching its governorship election scheduled for November 21.
“Our state in the last 16 years has been governed by just a senatorial district which is the Kogi East, specifically the Igala ethnic group.
โ€œIt is also in the public domain that there has been a very concerted and legitimate struggle for power to shift to either west or central senatorial district.
“In the spirit and interest of justice, fairness and equity, we have made several demands from our brothers in Kogi East to understand why power should be shifted to other districts.
“Upon this background, we wish to announce that we have resolved to take signatures of over 200, 000 voters of the west and central senatorial districts to demand for power shift.
“We are using this medium to call on every indigene of Kogi west and central that we shall open a register in each zone to demand signature of voters that support power shift.
“The register will be opened from Aug. 3 to Aug. 7 during the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. prompt,โ€™โ€™ it said.
The statement enjoined the people from these areas to come out en mass to register for a generational struggle to liberate our people and the generation yet to come.
