A strong appeal has been made to Kogi State government by the Aguma of Jida Bassa, Chief Samson Gudu, to ensure the security of lives and property of people living in the community.

This is coming on the heels of rising wave of criminal activities in the community and for this reason, the community is asking that a police post be located there.

Chief Gudu, who made the appeal while chatting with The Graphic in his palace in Jida Bassa, said the community has been under the siege of armed robbers, kidnappers and Fulani herdsmen.

He advised government on the need to do something urgently to curb the excesses of the Fulani herdsmen and other criminals that have been giving the people sleepless nights before the situation degenerated further.

The Aguma, who was recently a victim of one of the several attacks on his household, pleaded for security surveillance in the community, pointing out that since the attack on him, he has been living in fear.

According to him, since the various communities settled on the popular Ajaokuta – Lokoja road, they have never experienced what they are presently experiencing; pointing out that the whole menace started following the increasing presence of Fulani herdsmen in the area but he was quick to add that not all the herdsmen have criminal tendencies.

The Aguma observed that the issue of robbery and kidnapping were alien to them but regretted that the communities have had their fair share of all of these crimes in recent times.

Due to these developments, the Aguma appealed to the state commissioner of police to urgently establish a police post in his community to ward off people with criminal tendencies.

He recalled that during the days of Police Commissioner Abakasanga, he requested for a police post but said the request was yet to be approved, adding that he has also requested that the   vigilante group of the area be given recognition to enable them carry out patrol to reduce issues of robbery and kidnapping in the area.
