A political group, Kogi State Liberation Group has asked the 27 aspirants eyeing the ticket of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in its primary election next Saturday for the November 21 gubernatorial contest, to step down and support former governor Prince Abubakar Audu.
The group who spoke through its National Coordinator Malam Ibrahim Odaudu said the former governor is the only aspirant that holds the ace.
It would be recalled that the APC cleared all 28 aspirants for the election. The Coordinator indicated that they are drumming support for Audu because he is the only aspirant with the pedigree to rule the state considering his achievements while he was in office up till 2003.
According to Odaudu, “We and our over 325, 990 supporters and like minds cutting across the three senatorial zones of the state, have resolved to endorse the candidature of His excellency Prince Abubakar Audu and father of modern day politics in Kogi State.”
He described him as a leader whose legacy is unbeaten 24 years after he left office adding that the people of the state are yearning for his return to complete what he started.
The Coordinator indicated that it is important for Audu to return so that he can groom young successors who will succeed him to continue with his development strides for the benefit of the people.
He said the former Governor is a consistent leader who had pitched his tent with the opposition from the outset in 1999 and has remained undaunted till its party clinched the Presidency recently.
His strategic plan to liberate the state from its comatose condition by 2018 through transformation of the state into a world class commercial hub for investors; to ensure 50 percent of the unemployed youths are gainfully employed is equal to none.”
He said by 2019 Audu would have made it possible for over 70 percent indigent students to key into the e-learning platforms for academic excellence.
According to him, “Audu would reduce the high rate of poverty, unemployment and youth restiveness by 40 percent, he desires to ensure the welfare of the civil servants is made a priority as they are set to enjoy several privileges if he is elected. “Above all, he will ensure the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) is drastically improved through massive investment in Public Private partnership (PPP).”
