Governor Idris Wada of Kogi State has filed a petition challenging the return of Alhaji Yahaya Bello of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as winner of the governorship election in the state.

The election, conducted on November 21, was declared inconclusive and concluded on December 5.

Mr Akanji Akinlabi, the Secretary of the state Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lokoja, the state capital, on Wednesday, that the governor had filed a petition on the matter.

Akinlabi said the petition, signed by Chief Chris Uche (SAN), was filed at about 7:15 pm on Tuesday.

Joined as respondents in the petition are Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), APC candidate, Bello, and APC. Wada was the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the election.

NAN recalled that Mr James Faleke, the running-mate of the APC candidate in the election, the late Abubakar Audu, had on December 14 filed a petition on the issue.

The APC candidate, Abubakar Audu, died on November 22 shortly before INEC declared the election inconclusive.

The party, however, replaced the candidate with Yahaya Bello.
