Kogi YSFON Scribe, Shina Akande Dies at 54

The Secretary of Kogi State chapter of the Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria, Shina Akande is dead. He died at the age of 54.

Akande, a famous grassroots coach, athlete trainer and winner of Kogi State Federation Cup 2013 with non–league KABU FC, died on Sunday morning, November 15, according to a family source after a brief illness.

The Family source confirmed to SavidNews that Akande who was also a former board member of the Kogi State Football Association, had been hospitalized since a week ago.

The Kogi YSFON scribe missed his daughter’s wedding ceremony on Saturday due to the illness and however, passed out on Sunday morning. His remains had since been transferred to the mortuary of the Specialist Hospital, Kabba in Kogi State.

Until his death, Akande had under his watch helped several youth talents rise to stardom, including former youth international and Turkey based defender Gbenga Arokoyo national athlete Kemi Francis and marathoner Aderonke Olumudi.
