The Kogi State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Onu Edoka, has said the state workers will not participate in the screening exercise ordered by the state government before paying workers salaries.
Addressing journalists in responds to the pronouncement by the state government that screening must be conducted for workers and pensioners before the payment of one month salary out of the four months, Edoka stressed that workers had suffered for long and as such screening should be suspended for now.
According to him, when the union met the state Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, for peaceful resolution before the strike was embarked upon, the governor never mentioned any screening exercise before the industrial action was suspended.
He opined that the later directive by the governor calling for screening exercise to be conducted before payment was not part of the agreement reached by both sides before agreeing to suspend the strike.
He therefore called on the state government to rescind their directive between now and next week Wednesday or else they would commence an indefinite strike until government meet their demands.
Edoka therefore called on the workers, including pensioners in the state to shun the directive of the government for the screening exercise.
