With every sense of responsibility and humility I thank the group of stakeholders, statesmen and leaders who found in me qualities deserving of being drawn into the forthcoming 2019 elections to contest for the Kogi West Senatorial Seat with a view to becoming a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, representing and serving the hardworking and peaceful people of the Kogi West Senatorial District.
For the past ten years and at various times, several people and groups in our country, especially in Kogi State, have encouraged me to engage in active politics. This present call isn’t in any way more appreciated by me than all the earlier ones. However, this present call, which was taken further with the nomination form, and Expression of Interest form of one of the major political parties collected and presented to me, became the people’s trigger.
Apart from a ‘Presidential Commendation Letter’ which I received in the line of my professional duty, this call by my people marks one of my life’s most reassuring and touching moments, that little efforts certainly count. Once more, I am grateful.
In life, some offer themselves to serve, some are called to serve. The bottomline is to serve, and a true service to the people must be seen and felt. The events of the last few days have become a greater awakening for an inspiration I have  always had, to birth something greater than self. Although the processes for this particular election are far gone, my team, my people, my mentors, my political leaders and I have chosen to channel this call to higher service into the  launching of a People Power Political Movement called ‘Erelu Vanguard’ – #ProductivePolitics #KogiWestGrows. This will among other things:
i) mobilise the people for greater service oriented awareness;
ii) work with stakeholders and the people to compliment the performance of our political leaders, thereby tapping into the many dividends of our democracy at state and national levels;
iii) support the political candidature of person(s) mostly acceptable to the people as we listen to the voices of the people and feel their political pulse;
iv) create a platform for learning from our political leaders  in the Senatorial District to allow for an enviable and seamless political succession plans; and
iv) offer a sustainable political structure.
It is said that the ‘deep calleth to the deep’. Therefore, we invite all stakeholders – the people, the statesmen and women, the youths, the women, local and international friends of Kogi West – to join hands as we move our Senatorial District, and by extension Kogi State, to greater heights of prosperity, one that  further gives us our pride of place in our great nation.
Thank you all, and God bless.
– Ronke Bello, Ph.D.
