House of Representatives member and Kogi West senatorial aspirant, Hon. Sunday Karimi has warned the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) not to toy with the alleged plan to impose Senator Dino Melaye as the senate candidate for the 2019 election.
In a terse statement, Karimi called for a free, fair and credible primaries.
“If the PDP National working committee will not conduct a free, transparent and credible primaries as laid down in the guidelines of the party but imposes Dino Melaye on us as a candidate in Kogi west senatorial district, as they now planned, I will not hesitate to leave the PDP.
“I will not sit and watch anyone destroy the excellent work we have labored to do along with others in Kogi state to be sacrificed for his personal ambition. I will rather pull out of PDP with my massive supporters before the entire party collapses in the state.
“I came into House of Representatives, initially in 2011, through ACN which was a non-existing brand in my constituency, I am prepared to start a new journey,” he said.
However, the state deputy chairman of the party, Chief Sam Abenemi denied the allegation. He urged all aspirants to prepare to compete in a free and fair primaries.
“This growing concern on the issue of imposition is heightening, but as State Deputy Chairman of PDP and by implication the top in the hierarchy in west senatorial district, I am yet to be told how a primary will not hold as per the senate. If Atiku came as a former Vice president without an  automatic ticket for Presidency then I advise all aspirants to intensify their consultations and get set for a primary.”
