A contender for the All Progressives Congress (APC) Kogi West senatorial ticket, Dr Williams Toyin Akanle has commended his supporters for their steadfastness, urging them to sustain the tempo.
In a statement signed by the director general of the Akanle Campaign Organization, Prince Dayo Akanmode, Akanle called on his supporters to continue to keep faith and remain in high spirit.
“The struggle put in so far deserves commendation. You have all been so wonderful and have displayed raw courage.
“The atmosphere of rumour that pervadedĀ  the primaries is still very much around. For this group, we have done all we could to add credibility to the party right from the time we joined the party. We brought many to the party butĀ  unfortunately those that claim to be close to the ‘powers that be’ turned themselves to our accusers and since then they have been misleading the party by painting our principal black. They treated him like a leper and made the Governor distance himself from our principal. They described him as proud and uncontrollable. They even said he is an independent minded politician.
“His kinsman who was supposed to give unbiased assessment about him said he was not on ground. Unfortunately, no independent findings was made concerning a man who had done so much for the party. Unfortunately again, all these bias and character assassination was brought to the party primaries. What happened is in the public domain and can only be left for history to judge.
“Some have that advised that we move to another party because they were sure there would not be level playing ground and of course there have been tremendous pressure from other parties. As at today, despite the fact that the appeal committee report favoured us, there hasn’t been any pronouncement on the appeal due to undue pressure from the same powers that truncated the primaries.
“Flowing from all these, our supporters should embrace caution and patience irrespective of any name being bandied around. My worry is that we are going in to elections against formidable opponents with a divided house. So sad.
“As a group, we believe so much in divine direction. We have not taken a single decision with out hearing from the Almighty and we are still waiting on him for the actualization of the mandate,” he said.
