A civil society organization, the Citizens Centre for Democratic Governance (CCDG) has expressed delight over the high level of transparency and credibility that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) deployed in process that allowed for the will of the people to prevail.
In a statement released after the successful completion of the voter’s verification exercise of Kogi West Senatorial recall, the National Coordinator of CCDG, Osagbemi Anthony congratulated the institution of INEC under the leadership of Prof. Yakubu Mahmood.
He felicitated with the people of Kogi West senatorial District as they saw their will prevail.
According to Osagbemi Anthony; “Our field agents who were on ground in Lokoja, the capital of Kogi state, visited some polling units to observe the turnout and general process; and they confirmed that INEC has done a fantastic job. Our conclusion therefore, is that INEC deserves an accolade.
“There is no gain saying that several persons and groups have raised issues that boiled down to the lack of efficiency and question of suspicion and possible connivance between INEC and other entities. Today, the Commission has given us a reason to believe in its quest and dedication to the principle of ‘one man one vote.
“We pass a vote of confidence on INEC and also plead with Nigerians from all works of life to key into the vision of the New Electoral manager by supporting all his agenda towards a fruitful 2019 Elections.
“The success of the 2019 election is predicated upon the activities of the people”.
He pleaded with Nigerians who are yet to register or pick up their voter’s card from INEC should do so with immediate effect.
Osagbemi Anthony believes that the electoral commission is displaying signs which show that there will be light at the end of the tunnel for Nigerians.
He advised eligible voters to go out to register, pick up your cards on due dates, turn out in mass on Election Day, vote and make sure that their vote count.
