Kogi West: Dino Melaye Picks PDP Senate Ticket, Appeals to Aggrieved Aspirants

Senator Dino Melaye has emerged as the Kogi West Senatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2019 general election.
Melaye emerged at the affirmation primaries conducted at the Prestige Hotels in Kabba on Tuesday.
The returning officer, Mr. Jude Sule said Melaye scored all the delegates votes from the seven council areas that made the district.
The exercise which was peaceful was monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC and some security personnel.
The exercise had in attendance House of Representatives aspirants from the three Federal constituencies in Kogi West. However, the four aspirants that were not cleared by the PDP screening committee; Hon. Sunday Karimi, Asiwaju Clarence Olafemi, Alh. Ganiyu Salaudeen and Barr. Henry Ojuola were conspicuously absent.
Former Kogi West senatorial aspirant who had earlier stepped down for Melaye were present at the primaries with their supporters. Those who stepped down for Melaye were former commissioner of local government and chieftaincy affairs, Tolorunjuwon Faniyi and the current reps member representing Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu federal constituency, Hon. Tajudeen Yusuf.
Reacting after the exercise, Melaiye said the affirmation by all PDP delegates in Kogi West in a testimony to his sterling representation at upper chamber of the National Assembly.
He appealed to aggrieved aspirants to sheath their swords and join hands with him to rid the state and the country of the bad governance of APC, both at the state and national level.
Melaye stated that he has reconciled with three aggrieved aspirants and will continue to reach out to the remaining one to ensure total victory for PDP in 2019.
He said the decision of the party to endorsed him will act as a tonic for him to work more for the district when he eventually wins his second term bid.
Meanwhile, tension was said to be very high at Idah, venue of the Kogi East senatorial district where seven aspirants including the incumbent Senator Attai Aidoko are vying for the converted ticket.
As at 7:00pm, the delegates were re said to still be endlessly waiting for the arrival of the voting materials.
