- Calls on detractors to desist from cheap blackmail or regret their actions.
The Board of Trustees of the alumni association of Prince Abubakar Audu University, Anyigba (PAAU) has dissociated itself from activities of those it termed some unscrupulous elements within the association, who for their selfish interest, personal aggrandizement, greed and inordinate ambition, have consistently dragged the name and image of our institution to disrepute.
The board of trustees, in a statement by its chairman, CSP Richard Oguche, expressed shock at the trending media reports where some members took the university’s Vice-Chancellor and management to court without having recourse to the congress over any issue that may be at stake.
The BOT expressed dissatisfaction at the development, adding that at no time did the board discuss or agree that such a step should be taken at all.
“I wish to state categorically on behalf of the BOT members that the action of this faction of the alumni association was not initiated by the BOT.”
CSP Oguche described those initiating so called legal action against the Vice-Chancellor or the University Management as “impostors” who do not have any stake whatsoever, more so alleging any form of embezzlement in the association’s fund.
To further boost the confidence of the alumni members, general public, staff and students to the university’s leadership under the Professor Marietu Tenuche, the BOT passed a vote of confidence on the Vice-Chancellor, who he said has done creditably well in repositioning their alma mater.
To further ensure that the ugly issues do not continue to raise its head and stand on the wheel of progress of the university, Oguche said the Board of Trustee would convene an emergency meeting to take a decision on the conduct of the deviants to restore sanity to the university operations.
Recall that Prince Abubakar Audu University has had running cult related battles between rival cult groups before Professor Marietu Tenuche took over as Vice- Chancellor where she brought innovation, commitment and pragmatic leadership to the administration of the university.
In another development, the local chapter of the National Association of Kogi State Students, NAKOSS and the Forum of Departmental presidents, passed a vote of confidence on the Vice Chancellor describing her as one of the best leaders the institution has had since its history.
The students particularly outline her fight against cultism, immoral acts, unethical conducts and ensuring that students and lecturers see themselves as critical stakeholders of the university as signatures of her two years in office.
Rising from an emergency meeting held at the university on Monday, the students leaders also mentioned improvement in power supply, adequate security within and off campus, introduction and improvement of recreational facilities and as well as improvement in the quality of teaching and learning through developmental and entrepreneurship skills are some of the initiatives of the Vice Chancellor they would not allow any body or group of persons to tamper with.
They condemn in its strongest terms the derogation, lies, insult, blackmail and campaign of calumny aimed at distracting the Vice chancellor from her path of development which she has held since she came on board.
They also called on Kogi State Governor Alhaji Dr. Yahaya Bello to urgently call the faceless group to order whose aims are to destroy the University, create discontentment and break down of the existing peace which the Governor and the Vice-Chancellor has built over the years.
