Kogi United’s top scorer in the just concluded league season, Abdulkadir Aminu has expressed sadness over his side’s missing out of promotion to the apex league in the country but promised to redouble efforts ahead next season.
Kogi United, who campaigned in the Group A of the Nigeria National League, NNL ended 7th on the log after amassing 42 points from 30 matches.
The Confluence state club also to reached the Round of 32 of the Federation Cup where they were edged out by eventual finalist Dolphins FC.
Okene-born Aminu who scored 10 goals in all competitions to emerged top scorer for Kogi United noted that he would more happier had his goals helped to promoted his club to the Premier League and of course go further in the Federation Cup.
“Its a pleasure to end the season as top scorer for Kogi United, being my first season here, I thank God for that, but honestly its painful I didn’t do enough to get the team in premier league and in the FA Cup (Fed Cup), begins Aminu.
“The consolation was that I’m one of those players that won the State FA Cup and with our new style of play which attracted all football followers and make us to be among the top clubs in the league with good football, I’m ok with that, but getting promotion would have been more pleasing, but next season, we will increase our commitment and determination to achieve that, all we need is God’s support and prayers from our supporters with much of encouragement from the government that has been there for us,” said the product of Kwara Football Academy.
A former ABS FC midfielder, Aminu also expressed dissatisfaction on non-inclusion of any members of Kogi United in the three-batch lists of Samson Siasia led U-23 Dream Team.
He said despite ending the season as the second highest scoring team in the NNL, there should have been one of more of Kogi United players among the invited players for trials, just as he advised the authorities in charge to spread its tentacles of monitoring players in the league for the national teams.
“In fact I was numbed to discover that none of our players make the list, of over 100 players? I wonder the yardstick did they used to select those players, its not that those invited are not good, but if they really monitored us in the league, we should have at least have one or two players invited from Kogi United, but I’m not that bitter, its God’s time, and our time shall come by God’s grace.
