Head Coach of Kogi United, Tunde Abdulrahman has called for quick resumption of the new Nigeria National League (NNL) season just as challenged the league organizers and club administrators to improve match officials and players’ welfare packages.
Abdulrahman stated this in Lokoja on Wednesday shortly after his side defeated FC Zamfara 2-0 in the final day fixture of the league to wrap the 2016/2017 NNL season.
John John and John Jerome scored both goals in each half for the Confluence State club to end the season fourth on the Northern Conference log.
The former Wikki Tourists’ tactician who expressed delight on how his side ended the season despite missing out on promotion to the NPFL noted that he would bring about maturity and more balance to get the ticket next season if agreement were reached for him to stay on.
“First I’m grateful for the happy ending season, even though my target was to take the team to premier league, but I’m happy to have changed the mentality of the boys to a winning side, we played some good football and we were always thinking of wining all games whether home or away, which was not there when I joined.
“I wouldn’t say for now whether I will be here next season, but my demands were met I wish to try once again and work towards getting it right by next season, and I’m sure with every department working together like we did this season but with improved commitment I believe we will gain promotion by next season,” he said.
Asked about what he will do differently to achieve the feat next season, the former Kwara United handler noted that he would bring about balance and winning mentality to the team but would love the season to also start in earnest to make it work.
Abdulrahman however charged the league organizers to build on the successes recorded in the outline season just as he called for better package for players and match officials.
“As I have always been doing wherever I go, I will raise the mentality of the players, to make them feel and behave like a champions and I will make a balance team that can withstand any weather and conditions in the league.
“I will like also call on the organizers of the NNL to start the season quickly so that the boys won’t lose touch of forms, the NNL or NFF should also look in the area of players’ welfare packages because they are the main actors, they can bring about certain standard in what the players get in the NNL, also the referees should be encouraged and monitored closely so that we can build on the little improvement we had in officiating this season,” he said.
