Kogi United nicked the much needed win over visiting Plateau United as they return to winning ways with an overwhelming 2:1 comeback victory at the Lokoja Confluence Stadium.

The victory also confirms the Kogi United stay in the Nigeria National League for the 2012/2013 season while lose for Plateau United crashes their hope of playing in the Nigeria Premier League next season after falling four points behind league leaders, Nasarawa United on twenty-nine points as it remains a two-horse race between GIWA FC and Nasarawa United.

The Kogi State sponsored Nigeria National League outfit, misplaced their defensive nerves to let the visiting Plateau United get in-front at the 20th minutes, but Tony Wilson pulled one back from the penalty spot to help the home team finish 1:1 on the break.

Resilient Plateau United with a match plan of giving the struggling Kogi United a tough home ride lost grip at holding the homeside out in the game as the terrific header from Afolabi Abiodun at the 65th minutes to gain a comeback lead that was enough to preserve their unbeaten home runs.

The win for Kogi United makes the seventh of eight to see them move back into the fourth spot, having amassed twenty-two points from fifteen matches while visiting Plateau United still retains the third position with twenty-five points.

Speaking to Kogi United head coach, Ariki Abdulsalami Aliyu after the match, “we did spectacularly well against a tough side that looked prepared for a promotion into the premier league but as God will haave it we emerged victorious after fighting back to win the game.

“Having consolidated a place for ourselves in the Nigeria National League for next season, we hope to secure promotion next season and focus on our final league game(s) and prepare ahead of next season,” said Ariki.
