As a democrat, it is not the hijacking of this governing process that always bother me and my likes, it is the level of innocence often showed by those behind the hijacking that beats my widest imagination.
I do not know if it was Kingsley Fanwo who was speaking for himself yesterday or he was speaking for Governor Yahaya Bello in the democracy day press release.
But it is important to tell Kogites that in the last two years, the Kogistate democracy has been heavily tortured and crucified under governor Yahaya Bello’s watch.
A government that sponsored the arrest of Usman Okai Austin just because he kept insisting and agitating for good governance in the state has no right to preach democracy.
A government that masterminded the suspension of Hon Friday Makama from the State House of Assembly and equally refuse to allow his return despite court orders can on no grounds lay claim to being democratic.
The same government that spent millions of state fund to sponsor the recall process of a sitting senator against the consent of the members of his constituency, just because he dare to speak on behalf of the people, can not justify its celebration of democracy.
A government that ensured that programs like “Ufedo” on radio Ochaja and many others across other radio stations in the state that critically evaluates government policies and issues bothering on the state are no longer aired is never democratic.
A government that has a very tyrannic executive, that takes inconsiderate autonomous decisions and tell the masses to go and report him to Donald Trump if they are not okay with such decision is not democratic.
A government that has hijacked its legislature and turned judiciary to its puppet has no regards for democracy.
The same government that stoop so low to pay people to create pseudo accounts on social media just to attack those who pin point their lapses, share fake pictures of projects and even rubbish the image of those who kick against certain policies is completely detached of all sense of democracy.
The same government that openly refused the autonomy of the local government, lies when it announces it self as been democratic.
Except the present Kogi state government want us to accept that the definition and practice of democracy in Kogi state is now different from what we have in other states and other parts of the world.
Happy Democracy day to the few democrats in Kogi state.
