Teachers in public primary and junior secondary schools in Kogi have received their January and February salaries, the state Universal Basic Education Board said on Monday.

The interim Chairman of the board, Mr Steven Akwu, made this known when Gov. Idris Wada paid a surprise visit to the headquarters of the board in Lokoja.

The chairman said that the teachers were paid last week and that the board had concluded arrangements to pay outstanding March salaries by Friday.

Akwu pleaded with the teachers to exercise patience, saying that efforts were also being made to pay all their outstanding benefits.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the governor, on May 7, dissolved the board headed by Alhaji Jibrin Usman and appointed an interim management committee to run its affairs.

The governor specifically charged the interim committee to ensure prompt payment of outstanding salaries and allowances of teachers.

Teachers in primary and junior secondary schools in the state had staged a peaceful protest to draw the government’s attention to the non-payment of their salaries by the board. (NAN)
