The Lokoja Local Government branch of the Basic Education Staff Association of Nigeria (BESAN) yesterday protested the non payment of October salaries in Lokoja, Kogi State.
Protesting at the SUBEB office, secretary of the association, Adogan Umar said the action was informed by the comment credited to the government that the teachers have been paid their salary till date.
He said they want to let the people know that they are suffering due to non payment of their October salary.
Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board Jibrin Usman, while addressing the teachers, said the development was as a result of the delay in submission of September salary schedule by the accountants of the 21 local government areas of the state.
He said a letter to that effect was sent to them, but that at the moment, only six local government areas have submitted their September salary schedules.
“How can October’s salary be paid when they are yet to comply,” he said, adding that as soon as the schedules are received, the salary would be paid.
