Kogi State Government Reads Riot Act to Illegal Miners

Kogi state government has warned that the state will longer not continue to tolerate illegal mining in the state, stating that government will henceforth deal with the issue of illegal mining very seriously.

The State Commissioner of Solid Minerals, Hon Bashir Mohammed Gegu disclosed this when he paid an unscheduled visit to some illegal mining sites.

He stated that illegally mining is causing economic sabotage to the nation’s economy.

He advised miners in the state to get proper documentation, adding the state government will no longer tolerate any leakages in the nation economy, promising that the state government is ready to cooperate with miners who are ready to do genuine business in the state.

He urged them to always relate with his office as he is there not only to protect their interests but that the state government is ever ready to provide a conducive environment for them to operate.

The Commissioner who went into some of the illegal holes dug by the illegal miners, lamenting the huge loss of revenue to the government by the high incidents of illegal mining.

He said the government of Governor Yahaya Bello is keen to attract investors to the state but will not tolerate illegal activities.

He added that government will continue to provide the needed conducive environment for business to thrive in the state.
