Kogi Speaker Commiserates With Felele Flood Victims

The Speaker, Kogi  State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Matthew Kolawole today paid an on-the-spot assessment visit to the people of Felele community over the flooding that ravaged the area this morning occasioned by the heavy downpour which destroyed many houses in the area.
The Speaker visited the Honourable Idris Ndako, member representing Lokoja II at the Kogi State House of Assembly, to sympathize with him and the people of area over the sad incident which washed away over 100 houses.
Speaking to journalists shortly after the visit, Kolawole said it has become imperative for him to visit one of his colleagues and the people being their representatives to see things for himself to know which area they can support and assist the people.
He warned people building structures on the waterways to desist from doing so, as it is one the major causes of flooding.
He promised to work with his colleagues to initiate bills and motions that will assist the victims and also to reposition the town planning agency in the state.
Ndako commended Governor Yahaya Bello for his quick response noting that it is a sign of a good leader who cares for the people.
He said the state government has immediately opened camp for the victims at Sariki Noma where they can take shelter before the water subsides. He urged the government to open another camp around Felele area to take care of the people affected in the area.
He also commended the Speaker for his act of kindness to visit him and the people to see things himself, urging him to support him when he will present the issue on the floor of the assembly.
He however  called on the state government and National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to assist the victims as a matter of urgency.
