The member representing Idah Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, David Idris Zacharias, has suspended all political activities in the constituency following the death of former Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris.
Zacharias announced the suspension in a statement personally signed by him on Monday.
He said the decision was in honour of the late former governor, whose death had left him and others deeply saddened.
“In honour of our revered father and former Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, whose passing has left us all deeply saddened, I hereby order the total suspension of all our political activities, including our entire political team across Idah Federal Constituency and beyond,” he stated.
The lawmaker said the suspension took immediate effect and would remain in force until after the eight-day prayer, known as Fidau, for the deceased.
“This suspension takes immediate effect and will remain in force until after the 8-days prayer (Fidau) for our beloved departed leader,” he said.
Zacharias described the deceased as a leader whose life and service had contributed to shaping the destiny of Kogi State.
“We take this moment to mourn a man whose life and service shaped the destiny of our dear state,” he stated.
He said the decision was also aimed at demonstrating respect for the late governor and standing in solidarity with his family during the mourning period.
“Out of respect for his memory and in solidarity with his family, we shall refrain from all political engagements during this period of mourning,” he added.
The lawmaker urged his supporters and party faithful to use the period to pray for the repose of Idris’ soul and support his family.
“We urge all our supporters and party faithful to use this time to pray for the repose of his soul and to stand with the family in their moment of grief,” Zacharias said.
He prayed for Allah to grant the former governor eternal rest and comfort his family.
“May Almighty Allah grant him eternal rest and comfort his family,” he added.
