Member representing Idah Federal Constituency, Hon David Idris Zacharias has commended voters in his federal constituency for the peaceful manner in which they conducted themselves before and after the just concluded governorship election held in the state.
Zacharias, who handed down the commendation while addressing journalists in his Ejule residence on Sunday, noted that their behaviour was unprecedented and a sharp deviation from what used to be the “norm” previously.
He particularly commended voters at Ejule, stressing that for the first time in the history of Ejule over a period that there was no record of electoral violence.
He added: “ For the first time in recent time, a peaceful conduct of the election has come to be despite the toughness and security challenges witness at some point.”
The lawmaker commended traditional leaders and the specific roles they played across the constituency in ensuring a peaceful and serene environment for the polls.
Zacharias noted that the display of well behaved electoral demeanour by constituents despite a few areas where there are distractions in some local government within the constituency, proofs that the message of peace and maturity he has been preaching is sinking in the hearts of the people.
He added: “I feel so glad that no life was lost in this election as it has been the norms in our constituency. It shows how enlightened and mature we are in the present day unlike the cases of crisis reported in some part of the state.
“I thank you all for not allowing yourselves to be used by some politicians to cause mayhem, and it is my desire that the trust and respect you have reposed in me shall not be in vain. Together we shall make our constituency prosperous.”
The Lawmaker had earlier on Saturday delivered his Ubi Aja poling unit in Ofu local government area of Kogi to his party where the APC polled a total of 265 votes.
As collation of results for the Saturday exercise is still on going at the state collation centre, Zacharias urged his supporters to remain calm, maintain same peaceful decorum just as he assured them of victory at the end of the exercise.
