Kogi NEWMAP Hands Over Rehabilitated Forest Reserves to State Ministry

The Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project (NEWMAP) in Kogi State has handed over three fully rehabilitated forest reserves to the State Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources.

Barr. Ladi Ahmed Jatto, the Project Coordinator, Kogi NEWMAP, at the handing over event in Lokoja on Wednesday, said the rehabilitation project in line with the New Direction government’s commitment to ensuring a sustainable environment.

According to her, the rehabilitated forest reserves contain exotic and fruit trees, for economic purposes and consumption. The rehabilitated forests now boasts of woodlots and solar powered boreholes for the benefit of host communities.

The commissioner in charge of Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, Pharm. Sanusi Usman Yahaya commended the World Bank for its assistance through NEWMAP in its gully erosion stabilization, afforestation, drainage desilting and rehabilitation projects across the state.
