The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on Wednesday, presented Certificates of Return to winners in the National Assembly election of March 28 in Kogi State, with three senators and eight House Representatives members.
However, out of the nine House of Representatives seats for the state, one was inconclusive, three for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), while the remaining five went to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
While presenting the certificates, the state Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Professor Jacob Jatau, expressed gratitude to God for the successful completion of the elections and congratulated the winners for their victory, stressing that the power entrusted in them by the people came with expectations and responsibility to improve the living condition of the people.
He explained that INEC had recognised that elections were marred by violence in some areas which made it inconclusive and also accounted for the voters’ apathy in the last elections.
He, however, urged politicians to keep their supporters in check to avoid such occurrence in future.
The senators-elect that received their certificates of returns are, Dino Melaye-Kogi West; Kogi-East Abdrahman Abdullahi Abubarka and Salami Ohiare, for Central senatorial district.
The House of Representative members – elect are, Sunday Karimi- Yagba Federal Constituency, Tajudeen Yusuf – Kabba/Bunu/Ijumu Constituency, the former speaker of Kogi State House Assembly, Abdullahi Bello- Okene Ogori/Magongo constituency, Hassan Omale – Ankpa/ Omala/Olamaboro constituency, Emmanuel Egwu- Idah/ Ofu/Igalamela/Odolu, Buba Jibrin- Lokoja/Koton Karfe, Lawal Idris, for Ajaokuta and Ajanah Mohammed -Adavi Okehi constituency.
Senator -elect for Kogi East senatorial district, Alhaji abdulrahman Abdullahi Abubarka, expressed his gratitude to God, stressing that issue of erosion and land degradation will be given adequate attention and will attract federal presence to Kogi State
