Kogi Monarch Urges Govt To Intensify Efforts On Agriculture

The traditional ruler of Awo community in Ankpa Local government area of Kogi State, Chief Thomas Amedu has advised government at all levels to intensify efforts to support agriculture‎ so as to reduce crime level in the country and create job opportunity.

 

According to the Monarch, the only way for the country to get out of the present economic quagmire and reduce its effect on the people is to promote and put more emphasis on agriculture to make it attractive to the youths and young graduates.

 

Chief Thomas who gave the advice in an interview with newsmen in Ankpa, headquarters of Ankpa Local Government area pointed out that one of the sure ways to get the youths back to land is to commence farm settlement and provide necessary working materials.

 

He further stated that such formula may not be attractive initially but with time it will gain popularity due to the present recession, noting that it could reduce hardship to manageable level.

 

“We have vast arable land which the government can clear and make available for both commercial‎ and domestic farmers and all graduates who are interested in farming but the government have to be sincere”, Chief Amedu stated.

 

The money realised from the subsidy and from corrupt officers of Federal Republic of Nigeria could be ploughed back into effective farming which could engage the teaming youths and ever ready Nigeria graduates, ‎stating that when everybody in engaged, poverty will be reduced.

 

“There are many sure ways to fight hunger and hardship through genuine efforts as‎ enunciated by the government but first practical step is to marshal efforts towards making agriculture a success to create future for the teaming youth”, Thomas said.
