Okun people in Kogi West senatorial district have appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to give the vacant ministerial slot of the state to them.
The senatorial axis, under the auspices of Okun Peoples Front, OPF, made the demand Monday through a statement by its President and Secretary, Elder Ben Abereoran and Ola Odana, respectively, in Lokoja.
The group, in the statement, said going by the federal character representation of fairness, equity and social justice, the senatorial district deserved the ministerial slot.
The statement read in part: “In the present circumstances, the Central senatorial district has produced the governor and the Eastern senatorial district has produced the deputy and Chief of Staff.”
The group, which lamented the death of Mr. James Ocholi in March this year to create the ministerial vacuum, however, said the President was still at liberty to pick whoever he wanted to work with from whichever part of the state.
It, however, said its agitation for the ministerial slot was to correct the impression being created in some quarters that the position for the state in the federal cabinet was only for an ethnic group or a particular senatorial district in the state.
