…Screening exercise is more of elimination by substitution.

The leadership of labour unions in Kogi State will hold a world press conference tomorrow to mark the one year anniversary of workers’ verification exercise in the state.

This decision is contained in a bulletin signed by leaders of Kogi state chapters of Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Trade Union Congress, TUC and the Joint Negotiating Council, JNC, and other unions.

The union leaders described the one year old screening exercise as an obnoxious policy of a tyrannic administration aimed at total extinction of the civil service system in Kogi state.

“We say no to any further attempt to scrutinize files of workers who are already cleared. All cleared workers must remain cleared and holy. Therefore, further action of government to move files of cleared staff to government house fr further screening or other sinister intention is unacceptable to labour, because of earlier experience of workers’ files brought before the review committee can no longer be located or files being destroyed by water in government house are deliberate intention of government to screen out workers”, the bulletin reads.

Labour, describing the unending screening exercise as ‘elimination by substitution’, called on workers to be assertive when they face members of the review committee especially Mr. Yakubu Okala, Mr. Ododo and Hajia Ladi Ibrahim.

“We are using Wednesday, 22nd February, 2017 to commiserate with the families of our members who lost their lives in the course of the endless screening exercise”.
