Kogi, Kano, Zamfara, Three Others for Sardauna Veteran Unity Cup

The maiden edition of the Sardauna Veteran Unity Cup for ex-professional footballers will kick off today at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium (ABS) in Kaduna.

Six states including host Kaduna, Kogi, Kano, Zamfara, Kwara and Sokoto will participate in the competition, which will run from today and tomorrow.

The President of All Stars International Football Club in Kaduna, Mr. Abayomi George in an interview told Daily Trust that the objective of the competition is to create a forum that will strengthen the spirit of love and sportsmanship as well as enhance social interaction among all retired professional footballers in the country.

He said that the competition is in line with the vision of the Late Sardauna of Sokoto whose leadership style was aimed at bringing Northerners and Nigerians together as a symbol of national unity through sport.

Abayomi, who revealed that the competition will be a yearly event to be rotated among participating states, also disclosed that players including Ibrahim Garba, Akin Akinseide, Sam Elijah, Hussain Alabi and Baba Otu Mohammed among others will be part of the competition.
