Acting executive secretary of the Kogi State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) Mrs. Alice Ogedegbe said yesterday that the state is now better prepared to handle flood.
Ogedegbe said this at a two-day workshop organized by SEMA in collaboration with the International Rescue Committee (IRC) for volunteers in the nine local government areas affected by flood last year.
She said the state government has carried out enough sensitization campaigns, enlightening those living in flood prone areas on why they should not wait for flood.
She also stated that adequate measures have been put in place to mitigate the effect of flood on the people.
The SEMA boss said the agency is now better placed to handle flood, as it has been equipped on camp management and coordination.
Ogedegbe urged the volunteers to take the training seriously, as they would help in the rescue operation as well as other camp activities if flood occurs.
Representative of IRC at the training, Egwuda Peter said the group distributed seedlings and other farm inputs to last year’s flood victims, and that if a similar disaster occurs this year, the group will assist.
