Former President, Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Dr. Idris Omede has resolved to remain in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and work for its success in the November 16 Kogi governorship election.
In a press statement issued on Sunday, Omede announced that he has rescinded his decision to quit PDP and pursue his governorship aspiration on the platform of another party.
Omede, a former commissioner for health in the state, said his decision to remain in PDP was a result of broad based critical analysis, consultation wise counsel from respected citizens and politicians on the prevailing situation in Kogi state.
“Consequently upon this, decision and resolution has been reached within my team, who are delegates for the September 3 PDP primary election, on the direction for vote cast. The larger support base will be activated after the primary to support the victorious candidate for the 16th November, 2019 governorship election.
“With humility, honor and deep sense of gratitude, I wholeheartedly appreciate politicians, elders, individual members of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Association of Professional Bodies of Nigeria (APBN), other professional groups too numerous to mention, youths, women, workers, family members, friends and associates that shared in our vision, character, competence, capability, ability and believe in my aspiration. Your efforts were a source of strength and will remain fresh and green in my memory.
“I believe in time, possibility and opportunity in the future. A future that is bigger and greater as we continue to build and improve on political party and democratic ethos in Kogi state and by extension, the nation’s democracy,” he said.
Omede called for concerted effort to ensure PDP emerge victorious in the November poll.
